Filed in archive Drugs, Vaccines and Therapeutics , Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics , Other Biotechnology News , Stem Cells on December 5, 2005

With 2005 drawing to a close, The Scientist lists the 5 biggest stories in bioscience this year:
1. Korean stem-cell authority, Woo-Suk Hwang, his cloned dog, Snuppy, his research team's derivation of patient-specific embryonic stem cells via somatic cell nuclear transfer, and the cretion of the World Stem Cell Hub in Seoul
2. Avian Flu
3. The debate between intelligent design and evolution
4. Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath
5. The Human Cancer Genome and the International HapMap Project
Do you agree with the authors' choices? The Scientist invites you to join their online community to rate their choices and/or nominate your own choice for the biggest bioscience story of 2005. When I get my print version of the journal, I'll post their roster of "scandals, deals, and technical achievements that have defined the business of bioscience this year" (available online, requires subscription).
