Stemagen Acquires Patent Rights to Novel technique of Producing Uniparental Embryonic Stem Cells

Uniparental embryonic stem cells -extraordinary stem cells created without fertilization - could represent an acceptable alternative for those who oppose the traditional method that requires the use of embryos that are potentially capable of reproduction.
Exclusive rights to a patent for a novel technique in producing these uniparental embryonic stem cells have been acquired by Stemagen.
In this week's issue of Genes and Development, Dr. John McLaughlin and his team of researchers at the University of Pennsylvania described the successful transplantation of differentiated uniparental cells to rescue mice subjected to lethal doses of radiation.
In conjunction, Stemagen is partnering with the University of Pennsylvania to assess the viability of human uniparental cells in regenerative medicine.
