Potato Virus May Lead to Alzheimers Disease Treatment
Filed in archive Drugs, Vaccines and Therapeutics on August 25, 2008

In animal trials, researchers have demonstrated that vaccinations based on amyloid-like protein found in potato virus produced strong levels of antibodies that could attach to amyloid beta protein both in both solution and in tissue samples of Alzheimer's patients. The results have been published this month in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.
While further trials are necessary, a vaccine based using antibodies produced against the potato virus may be a promising lead to treating Alzheimer's disease.
