Personalized Vaccine Against Glioblastoma
Filed in archive Drugs, Vaccines and Therapeutics on February 6, 2007
Back in November, I wrote an entry on the status of the a vaccine against gliomas, particularly on glioblastoma multiforme. The vaccine, prepared by the biotech firm Antigenics from the patient's own tumor, has elicited immune response in all 12 patients under Phase I clinical trials.
After a tumor is surgically removed it's immediately shipped to Antigenics [snip]. Lab scientists homogenize and extract a particular compound of immune-boosting protein peptides that carries the DNA fingerprint of the patient's cancer. It is isolated and purified into individualized vaccine vials.
Antigenics has released a video accompanying the ABC news report.
