Flavored Medications
Filed in archive Other Biotechnology News on July 31, 2005
It will be a bit quieter in this blog for the next two weeks as the family hies off for a two-week holiday, along with thousands of others on a travelling spree this summer. What does Biotech has to offer these summer revellers?
The Biotech company, FLAVORx, is quick to cash in on this summer season's hordes of travellers. Kenny Kramm, FLAVORx President and CEO, says:
"Travelers taking pills or capsules, who plan on visiting or passing through areas where water may be suspect, may want to consult with their pharmacists and request that their prescriptions, or even some of those hard-to-take vitamins, be compounded into easily swallowed liquids. This will eliminate the risk of picking up any water-borne ailments in non-potable water."
There are more than 27,000 pharmacies and 2,000 veterinary hospitals using the proprietary FLAVORx formulary to compound medications. To find a pharmacy capable of turning your prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and vitamins into flavorful liquids that do not have to be washed down with water, refer to the FLAVORx website, or call 1-800-884-5771.
As the FLAVORx blurb says:
With this concern behind them, travelers can do what they were meant to do on vacation: enjoy themselves.
Enjoy your summer!

I have used FLAVORx for my kid's prescriptions. It is amazing how well it works. There is no more struggling and no more spitting the medicine out. It is wonderful for me and the kids. I have never used it when traveling but plan on it this summer when we are travelling.

In the field of pediatrics, compliance, when it comes to medicating children, is one of the most difficult issues. I usually give antibiotics for a full ten-day course. If it is bad tasting, you end up with many children not taking every dose in its entirety or taking a shorter course. Sometimes this is not enough to eradicate the infection in the child. This is a dangerous situation because you can get worse infections superimposed on already untreated ones. Getting a full ten days of a bad tasting antibiotic in a child used to be extremely difficult. Now this is remedied with FLAVORx, which offers a variety of flavors children like and choose for themselves. Now, we rarely have children who don't finish their ten days.
