FDA Approxes ATryn, First Drug from a Genetically Engineered Animal

The Food and Drug Authority has approved ATryn, the first ever transgenically produced therapeutic protein and the first recombinant antithrombin approved in the U.S.
ATryn is indicated for the treatment of patients with hereditary antithrombin deficiency, undergoing high-risk surgical or childbirth procedures. GTC Theapeutics has collaborated with OVATION Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to develop and market ATryn® in the United States.
