Active Biotech's recently concluded clinical phase II safety study proclaims that laquinimod, a novel oral medication for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), was well tolerated also at a higher dose.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS), i.e., the brain and spinal Cord. Predominantly, it is a disease of the "white matter" tissue. The white matter is made up of nerve fibres which are responsible for transmitting communication signals both internally within the CNS and between the CNS and the nerves supplying rest of the body.

The results of the clinical trials will be presented at the 21st Congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece, on September 30 by the Principal Investigator, Professor Magnhild Sandberg-Wollheim. The poster summarizing the study will also be available at Active Biotech's website tomorrow, Sept. 30.
