Filed in archive Food and Agriculture on September 1, 2005

Yesterday, from AFP:
European Union gives a 10-yr permission for Monsanto to sell genetically modified (Roundup-ready) oilseed rape for use in feeding animals and industrial purposes.
"The GT73 oilseed rape has been subject to a rigorous pre-market risk assessment. It has been scientifically assessed by the European Food Safety Authority as being as safe as any conventional oilseed rape," it said.
The EU authorization includes guidelines agreed with Monsanto on how to deal with accidental spills of the product. GT73 is grown in the United States, Australia and Canada. It is allowed for sale in those countries, plus Japan, the Philippines and South Korea.
