Cuba's Biotechnology Programs
Filed in archive Corporate and Industrial News , Drugs, Vaccines and Therapeutics , Meetings and Other Events on February 13, 2006
Seems like Cuba's biotechnology programs are gaining international attention recently, particularly the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Havana.
Aside from entering into joint projects with China on issues of public health, Havana's Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is also sparking interest from the Swiss government.
Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline will soon begin clinical trials on a meningitis B vaccine developed in Cuba. Experts say there may be similar opportunities for Swiss companies in future.
Chinese and Swiss delegates are attending the ongoing Fifth International Congress on Higher Education ¨UNIVERSIDAD 2006", seeking possible further collaborations.

Cuba also has strong ties to Canada, given Canada's biotech strengths, proximity, and lack of embargo.

I think, Cuban Biotechnology Institutions are good examples for developing world.
Americans should think more about this ambargo. They make themselves far away from the warm feelings of most of the world. I wonder if they care ......

This is actually quite interesting as I have only ever tended to think about Cuba when thinking about the US view of Cuba, Havana Cigars and city breaks to a city that is almost forbidden. Travelling to Cuba with http://www.dertour.co.uk
soon and it should be interesting to say the least!!
