Filed in archive Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics on September 13, 2005

Collagen is the most abundant, naturally occuring protein that makes up our bones skin and connective tissues. Recently, scientists have proposed a novel use for this compound whose most popular use is in cosmetic surgery.
According to a new study published in the September issue of Journal of Urology, collagen injections in the urinary sphincter may help men with urinary incontinence that often follows prostate surgery.
According to the researchers, the procedure is performed via the urinary outlet, the urethra, under local anesthesia, and is therefore unsuitable to patients with damaged urethra.
