Autologous Disc-Derived Cell Transplantation
Filed in archive Drugs, Vaccines and Therapeutics on October 1, 2005

A team of neurosurgeons from the International Spine Center Berlin led by Dr. M. Sabarini were able to treat degenerated cervical intervertebral disc by autologous disc-derived cell transplantion (ADCT) using chondrocytes prepared by co.don AG.
Instead of using Artificial discs or titanium implants, this new technology enables the repair of degenerated intervertebral discs, using chondrocytes (cells composing the cartilage) from the patient himself. These cells are collected, cultured in the lab using tissue engineering and would be ready for transplant within about 3 months.
