$200M Venture Capital For Emerging Public Health Risks

Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers is a reputable venture capital firm in Silicon Valley which has provided financial backing to some of the best known technology and biotech firms today, including Google Inc., Genentech, Inc, Sun Microsystems, Inc, and Amazon.com Inc..
This time, Kleiner aims its venture capital at emerging public health risks. The firm said yesterday that it had raised a total of $200 million for the KPCB Pandemic and Bio Defense Fund, which will be invested in companies working on fighting emerging biological threats, including the bird flu pandemic.
Kleiner also raised $600 million for its 12th general venture fund, $100 million of which will be invested in clean energy technologies.
