Top HIV Vaccine Research Myths Busted

Since World Aids Day is almost here, December 1st, the HIV Vaccine Trials Network which is headquartered at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center clarifies the most common myths about HIV vaccine research. A very prevalant myth is that HIV vaccines can give people AIDS - this is not true. The HIV vaccine does not contain the HIV virus and hence cannot give patients the disease. Another top myth is that there already exists an HIV vaccine, but there is no licensed vaccine against AIDS or HIV. In 2009, a study conducted in Thailand called RV144 showed that a vaccine combination could prevent about 32 percent of new infections, scientists are working on improving this combination. Many people believe that if they are not infected with HIV, they do not need the vaccine. Prevention is always better than cure - need more be said.
